Engine Over Heating

Monday, May 4, 2015

Left the Edisto River anchorage under clear skies moderate east winds. Engine trouble at mile 489 (overheating or so we thought). Anchored in strong tidal flow and wind at Oyster House Creek to investigate. Frantic moments as we drug anchor. Decided to seek better anchorage to get at the cause for overheating.
Anchored at mile 487 ICW, Church Creek for the night. Joined Dyad, a spectacular aluminum motor boat.

Dyad from Dover, Delaware

With the help of a Nanni Diesel mechanic on the phone we diagnosed the problem as a minor one – no serious overheating. Nanni Diesel is the new engine we put in Flicka two years ago. Thirty-eight house power pushes us along at 2000 RPH and six knots easily. Kabota tractor block. Part easy to get, however, like anything associated with boats, it requires constant maintenance. Diesel engines will run forever if you give them clean fuel and clean oil (and that routine maintenance).
Tomorrow, more fun and games.
