South Santee River

May 6, 2015
Left Charleston Harbor, 9 AM, passed Shutes Folly to starboard and had to duck out of the channel to avoid a container ship and scoot across the channel to avoid another one. Wind strong on nose. Past Mt. Pleasant to the west, crossed Dawes Creek, passing through more beautiful salt water marsh, past Caper Island to the east, Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge, Bulls Bay and past last fall’s anchorage on Awendaw Creek.

Pasted McClellanville, and finally anchored on South Santee River Mile 420 ICW after a forty-four mile run. Our old friend Dyad was already there and soon after our arrival the French Canadian Cap Jaseax showed up, along with another French Canadian sailboat. Weather predictions call for sustained winds 20-30 with gusts to 47. Hope the anchor holds.
Sweet Dreams
